…was our first project in France.
Originally a coaching inn dating from the mid 17th century, it had lived many lives; part residential, part dress shop, the village salle de danse and more recently, a wine cuverie. The building was completely derelict when we bought it in late 2002.
Our design converted the 800 sq m space into 7 apartments ranging in size from 70 sq m – 130 sq m and from 1 bedroom – 3 bedroom duplexes. Each is totally unique but designed with the common theme of space and light. All have open-plan living/dining/kitchen areas, exposed stone walls and oak beams, spacious bedrooms and en-suite bathrooms. The renovation work took 2½ years to complete and during this time we were lucky to establish a team of local specialist craftsmen whose work attains the highest standards and respect.
The apartments have now been sold to an international mix of clients all of whom still remain the original owners. For some it is their principle residence, for others a holiday home.
Le Clos de Pommard has set our standard for creating modern living spaces using lovely old stone building in the famous wine villages. It has proved to be a unique but much sought after concept, in this beautiful region of France.
