Perched on the edge of this charming village, the cottage at Cissey enjoys all the benefits of being in the heart of a thriving farming community and yet within a few kms of the capital of the famous Burgundy wine industry.
The surrounding fields of sunflowers and extensive forests are home to abundant wildlife; chevreuil deer and a wide variety of birds of prey. There are miles of beautiful walking, cycling and jogging routes through these woods and the wild flowers in early spring and summer make it a magical place for family picnics.
The village itself is a collection of very old stone barns and houses that date back to the early 17th century. The chateau is a bit ramshackle but the rest of the houses are all well maintained and fully occupied. This is a living village. Many of the local farming families that have been in Cissey for generations, are also vignerons, so it is a wealthy and thriving community with enormous civic pride.
Cissey is one of three villages that form the commune of Merceuil. It is 1 km from the village bar, grocery store, junior school, church and the Mairie. Interestingly, Merceuil is the birthplace of Paul Mason who famously was one of the founding fathers of the Napa Valley wine industry.
With Beaune on the doorstep, Cissey is well served with shops, restaurants, museums and nightlife. The calendar of international events makes it a very sophisticated location for enjoying a rural lifestyle.
